Blindfold Bird Songs

User Guide

Blindfold Bird songs is a fully accessible puzzle inspired by matching games and bird songs, for both sighted and visually impaired people, designed for rapid audio play.

There are several types of games in Bird songs.
Name That Bird improves your skill at matching a bird with its song.
Find That Bird is a matching game where you must remember the square where each bird song is located.

Name That Bird

This game starts with 3 birds names listed on the left side of the screen, and their songs, listed randomly on the right side of the screen.
Pick one of the bird names on the left by swiping up and down, and then swipe right.
To hear each bird’s song, swipe up and down.
Once you think you know the match, tap twice.
You get 2 points for each correct pick, and lose 1 point for each wrong pick.

To look for a different bird, swipe left to go back to the bird name list.
You can tap twice at any time, and the game will check the match between the name you most recently heard, and the song you must recently heard.

The level is over when you matched all 3 birds to their songs, and you move onto the next level.
In the next level, two more birds are added.

The game is over when you reach 25 birds, or you run out of bird songs.
You’ll need to get some of the bird song packs to get past level 3.

To hear the spelling of the bird’s name, swipe down with 2 fingers.

Find That Bird

The find game is a matching game set out in a grid.
Each bird song is located twice in the grid.
Your goal is to find matching bird songs.

The grid starts out with 3 bird songs in a 2 by 3 grid.
Move somewhere on the grid and tap twice, and you’ll hear a bird’s song.
Move somewhere else, and tap twice again.
You get 5 points for each correct pick, and lose 1 point for each wrong pick.

Once you pick the first bird song, you must pick a second bird song; you cannot cancel a match; that would be cheating.
Prior to picking the second bird, you can hear the bird you selected again by swiping up with 2 fingers.

When you found the matching pair for each of the three 3 bird songs, you advance onto the next level.
Each time you move up a level, two more birds are added.

The game is over when you reach 25 birds, or you run out of bird songs.
You’ll need to get some of the bird song packs to get past level 3.

Sometimes the grid will have empty spots at the bottom right.
For example, on level 3, where there are 7 bird songs filling out 14 spots, the grid is 3 by 5, with one unused, or empty spot, at the bottom right.
When you move your cursor to an empty spot, you’ll the word “empty”.

In the SETTINGS screen, you can enable a drum sound whenever you have pick the first song, which shuts off when you make your second pick.

Levels

When you complete a level, you’ll be rewarded with a bird fact. To hear it again, swipe up with 2 fingers.

To post your score to Twitter or Facebook at the end of a level, tap twice with 2 fingers.

Games

Beginner Game

In Beginner Game, there is always a move that can be made, and when new gems are added to the board, sometimes the new gems come in pairs or triplets.
This game is intended to be relaxing or for beginners.

Standard Game

In Standard Game, you may run out of moves.
When new gems are added to the board, they will not match the gems to the left, right, above or below gems, so you will have to look for matches elsewhere.
As other gems are eliminated the new gems may line up with matching gems so they can be eliminated.

Like the Beginner Game, once you clear 50 gems in a level, you move to the next level.
In level 2, gem points are multiplied by 1.5; hence you get 15 points for a match of 3 gems, or 30 points for a match of 4 gems.
In level 3, gem points are multiplied by 2; hence you get 20 points for a match of 3 gems.
As you move up levels, the gem point multiplier keeps increasing.
Bonus points do not increase as you move from level to level.

Time Trial

With Time Trial, you start with 25 gems, and you need 50 gems to complete the level.
Every 20 seconds, you will hear a honking sound, and you will lose one gem.
Like the standard game, each time you match 3 or more gems, you win those gems, and get more points, and like the standard game, you need 50 gems to move to the next level.
Otherwise, if you lose all of your gems, you lose the game.

Scoring is the same as Standard Game.

To help you keep track of time, every ten seconds, you will hear a DONG-DONG sound.
You can adjust the time interval where you lose one gem, from 10 seconds to 90 seconds, in the settings screen.
This game can be very stressful.
